"1946-66  இந்த 20 ஆண்டுகள் ஒற்றுமை ஒன்றே துயர் நீக்க வல்லது- ஒற்றுமை இல்லையெனினும் செயலே பிரதானமெனும் இரு வேறுபட்ட கருதுகோள்களுக்கு இடையே சரிநிலை வகிப்பதிலும் செயல்பாட்டிற்கான ஒற்றுமை காண போராடுவதிலும், துடிப்பான பணியிலும் நிகழ்ந்திருக்கிறது.

ஒற்றுமைக்கான என் முயற்சிகளை ஆதரிக்கும் அதேவேளை நடவடிக்கை தேவையாகிறபோது எதிர்க்கத் துவங்கும் பிற்போக்கு சக்திகள் ஒரு புறம்- செயல் வெற்றிக்கு ஒற்றுமையை வலியுறுத்தும் என்னை விரும்பாத மிகவும் தேர்ந்த பிரிவுகள் ஒரு புறம். இந்த இரு துருவங்களாலுமே நான் தாக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன். முழுமையான ஒற்றுமையை கட்ட இயலாதாயினும் இயன்ற அளவு அனைத்துக் குழுவினருடனும் ஒத்துப் போதல் என்பதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவேண்டும். நண்பர்கள் நான் ஒருவேலைநிறுத்தத்தை தலைமை ஏற்று நடத்த இயலுமா எனும் சந்தேகத்தைக் கிளப்பினர். ஆனால் அரசாலும் பெரும்பான்மையான தலைவர்களாலும் உண்மையில் ஆபத்தானவன் என  நான் கருதப்பட்டேன் “

“ என் விடுதலைக்குப்பின் ( 1949 பிப் 3 மாத சிறைவாசம்) நாங்கள் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டோம். மாநாட்டு ( அம்பாலா) சமையல் அறையில் ஜனக் இருந்தார்…

இந்தியா முழுவதும் இருந்து வந்த நண்பர்களை சந்திக்கும் முதல் வாய்ப்பு இதுதான். அவர்கள் தங்கள் இல்லத்திலிருப்பதைப் போன்ற உணர்வை எங்கள் பஞ்சாப் விருந்தோம்பலில் ஏற்படுத்தினோம். எங்கள் திருமணத்தைக் கொண்டாடும் ஒரு சமுதாய விழாவாக மாநாடு மாறியது”

“ Hitler's National Socialism, instead of of for assuring abolition of classes and distribution of fruits of labour to all toilers- promised middle class petty owner (non Jews) protection from bankrutcies and revolution. It assured jobs to the unemployed, good wages to the workers not to all but to select that is true Germans- The Aryans by Blood. He mobilised German workers' Chauvinism by telling them that they were the most industrious..Thus racism something  as in South Africa was created Fascism, created the concept of SuperMan and gave vent to the contempt for common folk " ( OPG May 1975 Telecom )

" With profound grief the working class mourned the sad passing away of the great poet revolutionary and humanised Faiz Ahmed Faiz of Pakistan. He stood, fought and suffered for the noblest causes of mankind. With flaming passion he exposed the tyrants imbued with a deep conviction undaunted neither for prison nor by illhealth, he roused the people to fight for freedom and equality. He fought for world peace, for friendship with India for the success of liberation movement and for socialism. “Com OPG contained himself in the P&T movement itself.  And so India lost one of the finest working class intellectual in the socio political philosophical arena. Telecom has been his experimental theatre and research lab to explore and implement all his socio economic political ideas.

 He is an ardent negotiator and consistent fighter. He knows well the toughness adds toughness only as it eliminates peace which is a pre-requisite for any development. Compromise is not a mere tactical line to him - it is a way of life. He knows the art of making its full use.

His organizational principles are to the core classic mostly humane, as all the classics are basically humane. He has been basically a Marxist also a Gandhian”

“ Com OPG always utilized the journals of Telecom Union to float his ideas and views not only to enrich the rank and file but also to react. Sometimes even provokes the ranks and sense  the reaction to arrive at consensus for attainable solutions. He is an independent thinker and hence becomes a controversial personality”

“ ..provocations, slanders betrayals and all forms of planned, protracted attacks have never made OPG to cease his mission. His prophecies on issues like promotions, Bonus and Restructuring etc though raised stormy controversies, did wonders and projected the movement to the peak…. To the left, he seems to be a reformist, to the right he seems  to be a revolutionary but sometimes exceptionally so friendly “

page 9 : " Marxism is not a dogma but a guide for its application in a given context. My activities are based on Marxist Principles and their application on a particular front (union) and in given circumstances.

Some expressions of mine might convey different meanings to different people in a different situation. At best they may reflect lack of proper understanding, especially in the background of complete isolation from party education. ...

Some of my activities and expressions may not receive proper appreciation, not because they are at variance with the party policies but because they reflect their practical application in the field ( P & T union )

The political task in a Trade Union is basically to build united organizations for struggle against anti working class policies of the Government..Naturally, the struggles, both in terms of time as well as slogans will differ not only from union to union, sector to sector but also from time to time.

Work in a united organisation differs considerably from that under party control union... Even in a union under party control the leadership has to reflect the views of the common workers unless we decide to allow disruption or liquidation of the Union "

“ Com OPG is an extraordinary man, highly intelligent, with originality, very innovative and completely dedicated to the cause. He is never rattled by opposition, or ever demoralized by defeats. He is neither tipsy nor intoxicated by  victories, and never loses his poise “

“ There were doubts as to how far a strike in a highly tech industry ( sep 2000) can be successful. It has been proved it could be successful.. Com Gupta’s words ‘connectivity’ is the thing.. what is the reason for such a massive response unprecedented response to the strike? Because it touched each and everyone.. everyone was concerned about one’s future. Hence the response.

The Trade Union has twin responsibilities. It has to protect the economic interest of the workers. That is the primary responsibility. It has got the other responsibility of making the workers realize his responsibilities to the society”

“ தனது அரசியல் வாழ்க்கையை 1946ல் துவங்கிய தோழர் குப்தா துவக்க காலத்தில் AITUC  தொழிற்சங்க பணிகளில் தான் ஈடுபட துவங்கினார். அப்போது அரசுப் பணியிலுள்ள தொழிற்சங்க தலைவர்கள் பலரும் பதவி உயர்வு/ இடமாற்றம் போன்றவற்றால் அரசினை உறுதியுடன் எதிர்க்க இயலாது சமரசம் செய்து கொள்வது வாடிக்கையாக இருந்தது. அப்படித்தான் தபால் தந்தி  ஊழியர்க்கான தொழிற்சங்கமும் காம்ப்ளே என்ற தலைவரை எதிர்கொண்டது. அவர் வேலை நிறுத்தத்திற்கு எதிராக வானொலியில் அரசுக்கு ஆதரவாக பேசியதால் ஊழியர்கள் ஆத்திரப்பட்டார்கள்.

’வெளியாள்’ (outsider) தான் அரசிடம் விலைபோகமாட்டார் என்ற குருட்டுத்தனமான சிந்தனையோட்டம் இருந்த அந்த காலத்தில் அப்போது மிகவும் மதிக்கப்பட்ட தபால்தந்தி தொழிற்சங்கத்தலைவரான தாதாகோஷ் அவர்கள் இந்தியாவின் ஒரே தொழிற்சங்கமான AITUC தலைமையை அணுகி ஒரு தோழரை தபால் தந்தி தொழிற்சங்கத்தில் பணியாற்ற அனுப்பிவைக்கும்படி வேண்டிக்கொண்டார். அப்படி நுழைந்தவர்தான் ஓ பி குப்தா. ஆனால் அதன் பின்னர் அவர் திரும்பி பார்க்கவே இல்லை. இறுதி மூச்சு உள்ளவரை தொழிற்சங்க இயக்கமே கதி என வாழ்ந்தார்.முழுமையாக தொழிலாளரின் வாழ்க்கையை மேம்படுத்தும் பணிக்கு தன்னை அர்ப்பணித்துக்கொண்டார் “

பக் 90-91 தோழர் எல் சுப்பராயன்

“ குப்தாவிடம் உள்ள நற்குணமே அடுத்து என்ன நடக்கும் என்று தீர யோசித்து செயல்படும் தீர்க்க தரிசனமான செயல்பாடுதான்.

தோழர் குப்தா சிறந்த அறிவாளி, ஆற்றல் மிக்கவர், அனைத்து விஷ்யங்களையும் படிப்பவர்… அடக்கத்தின் காரணமாக தான் சிறந்த அறிவாளி என்று வெளிக்காட்டாமல் பகட்டோ ஆணவமோ இல்லாது சாதாரண மக்களோடு மக்களாக பழகுவார் ”

தாதாகோஷ்பவன் நம் அனைவர் மனதிலும் நினைவகலா இடம்..வரவேற்று தங்க இடம் தந்து, ஓய்வெடுக்க படுக்கை தந்து, உற்சாகப்படுத்தும் வர்க்க கதை பல சொல்லி என.. கண் விழிக்கும் முன்பே கையில் தேநீருடன் தட்டி எழுப்பி அப்பப்பா… அப்படியொரு அன்புத்தலைவன்.. உள்ளத்தாலும் உயரத்தாலும் வளர்ந்த தலைவன். அவர்தான் நம் தலைவர் ஓ பி குப்தா.”

பக் 71 : ” மாற்றுக் கருத்துடைய தலைவர்கள் பற்றி கூறும்போது அவர்கள் கருத்தால் மாறுபட்டவர்களே தவிர உறவால் நமக்கு ஒன்றுபட்டவர்கள் தான் என்பார் தோழர் குப்தா”

பக் 46 : எந்த ஒரு போராட்டமானாலும் அது வெற்றிபெற தேவை அனைவரும் ஒருங்கிணைந்து செயல்படுவதே. சிலர் மட்டும் தங்களை வீரமிக்கவர்களாக நினைத்துக்கொண்டு சீறிப்பாய்வதல்ல போராட்டம். இந்தவகை, போராட்டத்தை பிளவு படுத்திடவே செய்யும் என்றவர் குப்தா

பக் 58: எந்த மாற்றம் வந்தாலும் கம்ப்யூட்டர் நவீனமயம் எது நுழைந்தாலும் கூக்குரல் எழுப்பி ஊழியர் மத்தியில் அச்சத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி ஓய்ந்துவிடுவதல்ல தொழிற்சங்கத்தின் வேலை… மாற்றம் தரும் பிரச்சனைகளை சரியாக புரிந்துகொண்டு எதிர்கொண்டு சரி செய்ய வேண்டும். மாற்றம் தரும் முன்னேற்றத்தைப் பயன்படுத்திகொள்ள திட்டமிட்டவர் குப்தா.

தோழர் குப்தாவுடன் நீண்டகால தொடர்புகொண்டிருந்தவன் என்ற முறையில் அவரின் சாதனைகள் கண்டு வியந்திருக்கிறேன். அவரது அனுபவம், அணுகுமுறை, ஓய்வில்லா உழைப்பு எல்லோருக்குமான சிறந்த எடுத்துக்காட்டு.

பிரச்சனைக்காக விவாதிக்க செல்லும்போது அதன் தீர்விற்கான பல வழிகளையும் குப்தா எடுத்துகூற தவறியதே இல்லை.. பேச்சுவார்த்தை மூலம் தீர்வு காணவேண்டும் என்பதில் நம்பிக்கைக் கொண்டவர். பேச்சுவார்த்தை பயனற்றுப்போனால் வேலைநிறுத்தம். அறிவித்தால் கடுமையாக வேலைநிறுத்தம் நடைபெறும்”

“ வேறு எந்த பொதுத்துறையிலும் இல்லாத ஒரு சிறப்பாக BSNL நிறுவனத்தில் பணியாற்றி ஓய்வுபெறுவோர் மத்திய அரசு விதிகளின்படி மத்திய அரசின் நிதியிலிருந்து ஓய்வூதியம் பெற்று வருகிறார்கள். இது இந்தியாவில் வேறு எந்த பொதுத்துறையிலும் இல்லாதது. இதை சாத்தியமாக்கிய பெருமைக்குரியவர் தோழர் குப்தா…

தோழர் குப்தாவின் தீர்க்க தரிசனம், தொலைநோக்கு காரணமாக லட்சக்கணக்கான ஓய்வூதியர்கள் அவர்களின் குடும்பத்தார் நிம்மதியாக தூங்க முடிகிறது. ‘”

“  This task was found not an easy one. Com Gupta did play a prime role taking NFTE FNTO BTEF together in managing the GOM specially appointed for conversion, launching 3 days glorious massive struggle during sep 2000 to ensure not only the nature of statutory frame work of pension orders but also to get a special privilege of getting pension straight from GOI and thro any pension fund as mentioned in 37 A for others. This achievement was something unique in the chequred history of Telecom Trade Union Movement “

தோழர் தமிழ்மணியின் சமர்ப்பணம்

“ உலகில் அவ்வப்போது மாமனிதர்கள் தோன்றி தமது ஆளுமைத் திறத்தினாலும் சிந்தனை வளத்தினாலும், சமுதாயத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கும் ஊழியர்கள் நலனுக்கும் புதிய திசைக்காட்டி வந்துள்ளனர். அத்தகையோரில் ஒருவராகத் தோன்றியவர் குப்தா.

உலக தொழிற்சங்க அரங்கில் எந்த தலைவர்களும் சிந்திக்காத, தொழிநுட்பத்தின் மாற்றத்தால் ஒருவரையும் இழந்துவிடாமல் அனைத்து பகுதி ஊழியர்களையும் ஓர் அடி முன்னே அழைத்து சென்றவர் தோழர் ஓ பி குப்தா… என்ன தந்தும் ஒற்றுமை என்னையே தந்தும் ஒற்றுமை என்ற தாரக மந்திரத்தை தந்தவர்.”
